Popular local youth team, Abbeymead Rovers Under 13s, finished the season in style last month by winning the Under 13 Division 3 league.
“We’ve had a fantastic season”, said Lee Harper, coach for the Under 13s yellow team. “The team has worked so hard - we only lost one match throughout the whole season and every boy deserves praise. Needless to say, we couldn’t have done it without the support of their parents too.”
All the players and staff can be proud of this fantastic achievement but one of the standout stars has to be goal machine Thomas Weygang, who finished the season as the league’s second highest goal scorer, hitting the net an astonishing 30 times.
Special mention should also go to the team’s captain, Daniel Jones, their heroic keeper, Jake Harper, and tough tackling centre back, Rowan Freeman, who won the Manager’s Player of the Year Award 2015 and must surely be in contention for that prize again this year.
