Home interior trends for Spring 2022

As we look forward to Spring and hopefully spending as much time outdoors as indoors, the trend of creating a more seamless transition between home and garden continues, with the latter being an ever-popular focus for improvement.

Pets – pooches in particular – also look set to benefit from this year’s home trends. “Barkitecture”, the art of creating bespoke, luxury spaces for our pets that fit with our busy lives, is growing in popularity.

We’ve put together a few of the top interior trends for Spring 2022, along with some ideas on how you can bring them to life.

Barkitecture

We’re keeping our pets in mind when redecorating this year. 'Barkitecture' is set to be the next big thing in home décor for 2022 and is all about creating luxury spaces for our pets that fit seamlessly with our busy lives and design preferences.

In utility rooms, for instance, the demand for multi-functional spaces has become greater, with built-in dog showers to clean off muddy paws after walks. Whereas before, these would be simple outdoor taps that only ran cold, now dog owners want luxury versions, with warm water, flexible shower hoses and tiled splashbacks in keeping with the room’s décor.

This “barkitecture” trend might also mean turning the area where your dog's bed is usually kept into a more luxury dog bedroom, or incorporating stylish cat-friendly shelves and scratch posts discreetly into the permanent fittings of your home.

Shades of green

Green is the standout colour trend for Spring/Summer 2022, with our connection to nature and the world around us having never been more important.

Bringing the outside in, shades of green - ranging from olive to sage, eucalyptus to mint - give a fresh, harmonious and revitalising look to our homes.

We’ll also see more green velvet sofas, sage or olive painted walls and jute textured rugs, again bringing nature indoors and helping to enrich our interior spaces. However, a whole green room can seem a bit daunting to some. If you love the colour, but don't want to make any permanent changes, consider adding in rich jewel-toned greens through your cushions, prints and decorative items.

Colour in our kitchens

Using colour in the heart of our home is becoming more appealing. There’s a move to introduce a broader colour palette in this space with painted cabinets, colourful stoves, light & bright walls, accessories and splashbacks.

Creating a dream garden

As Spring approaches and our love for our gardens continues to grow, we’ll see many paying just as much attention to the décor of their gardens as they do to the design of their homes.

Homeowners are giving their garden a sociable feel, making it an extension of their homes. This comes with the introduction of softer outdoor-use upholstery, lighting, accessories and fire pits, as well as the increase in popularity of outdoor cinemas, kitchens and hot tubs.

Considered organisation

With a 700% increase in Google searches around decluttering at the end of last year, it looks like 2022 will be the year for the ultimate spring clean.

decluttering

This is less about stripping your home of everyday essentials, and more about displaying your things in an intentional way: uncluttered and well-organised.

Sustainability in mind

The use of organic materials in our homes has become prominent in recent years and 2022 will see further emphasis on sustainable materials, responsible manufacturing, and the sale and purchase of second-hand furniture.

Materials like reclaimed wood, stone, glass, cotton and linen create a harmonious and healthy atmosphere, as does having plants and flowers inside your home.
